ABOUT US

Marine Park First School is a Community First School for boys and girls aged 3-9 years old. It is situated in Whitley Bay which is in North Tyneside.

Marine Park First School is the largest First School in North Tyneside and, including Nursery children, the school can accommodate 520 children.

From Reception to Year Four we have three parallel classes of mixed ability pupils in each year group. The children are taught in chronological age groups for the vast majority of the time. Within the classes teachers use a mixture of class, group and individual methods of teaching. We aim to provide a broad, balanced curriculum which is in keeping with the National Curriculum but is relevant to each child’s needs.

Admissions Procedure

Our school follows the admission policy of North Tyneside. Visit the Local Authority website for more information.

Nursery admissions are managed by Marine Park First School, following the Local Authority Admission Code. Pupils are eligible to attend the Nursery in the September following their third birthday. In order to be considered for a place, parents/carer must apply directly to the school. Please contact Ms G Ramsay on 0191 2534343  or call into the school office. All schools in the Whitley Bay Collaborative agree on a offer day (usually the first Friday in February) and set a deadline for accepting or declining a place. Schools then cross reference lists of accepted places.

Please note that a place in the Nursery class does not guarantee a place in the Reception year.

Reception admissions:

Pupils are eligible to attend Reception in the September following their fourth birthday. North Tyneside Admissions manage the admissions procedure for Reception and the other year groups. Visit the Local Authority website for more information and to apply.

Admissions into other Year Groups: To apply for a place in other year groups please contact North Tyneside admission at: school.admissions@northtyneside.gov.uk

The Three Tier System

A three tier system consists of:

=First Schools - for children aged from 4 to 9

=Middle Schools - for children aged from 9 to 13

=High Schools - for children aged from 13 to 16 (18+)

The three tier system operates in the areas of Monkseaton and Whitley Bay. There are:

2 Trust First School

6 Community First Schools

4 Trust Middle Schools

2 Trust High Schools

Marine Park First School is one of the 6 Community (and 2 Trust) First Schools part of the three tier structure. Most of our pupils move onto Marden Bridge Middle School or Valley Gardens Middle School; we also have pupils that move on to Monkseaton Middle School and Wellfield Middle School. After middle school most pupils move onto Whitley Bay High School; some pupils move on to Monkseaton High School.

The three tier system gives a smooth and natural progression for your child’s education, with the flow of learning continuing at each transfer stage (ages 9 and 13). The family of schools in the Whitley Bay Collaborative maintain close links with each other which ensures that subjects and initiatives have been developed across all schools.

At the beginning of Year Four the parents of our Year Four children receive information about the Middle Schools in the locality and there are Open Evenings for parents and children.

Visit the Local Authority website for more information and to apply.
